Welcome to Secure Crypto Storage
Setting up your Trezor hardware wallet is the first step toward securing your digital assets. Whether you're new to crypto or migrating from a software wallet, Trezor gives you complete control and privacy. This guide walks you through the secure setup process using Trezor.io/Start.
🔧 What You Need
- A Trezor Model One or Model T device
- A USB cable to connect your device
- A desktop or laptop with Chrome, Firefox, or Brave
- Optional: Trezor Suite desktop app
Step 1: Go to Trezor.io/Start
Open your browser and visit https://trezor.io/start. This is the only official onboarding link.
Step 2: Connect Your Device
Plug your Trezor into your computer using the provided USB cable. Follow any browser prompts to allow device access.
Smart OS Shortcuts:
- Windows: Press Win + R → type control printers to verify device visibility
- macOS: Press Cmd + Space → search “USB devices”
Step 3: Install Trezor Bridge
Trezor Bridge is a secure communication layer that allows your browser to talk to your hardware wallet. You may be prompted to install it from the official site.
Install Trezor BridgeStep 4: Create a New Wallet
Click “Create a new wallet.” Your device will generate a new set of recovery words (also known as a seed phrase). This phrase is the most important part of your crypto security.
Smart Tips:
- Disable printer dialogs using Ctrl + P (avoid printing the seed)
- Use a waterproof or steel backup (e.g. Cryptosteel)
- Keep your seed phrase in two secure locations
Step 5: Set a PIN
Choose a secure PIN on your Trezor device. This PIN is required every time you plug in your wallet.
Security Practices:
- Use at least 6 digits
- Avoid using your phone PIN or repeating digits like 000000
- Never share your PIN with anyone
Step 6: Explore Trezor Suite
Launch Trezor Suite or use the desktop app. This is your dashboard for managing Bitcoin, Ethereum, and over 1000 other assets.
Shortcuts in Suite:
- Ctrl + Shift + R — Hard refresh the app
- Tab — Cycle through tabs
- Esc — Close dialogs or modals
Optional: Add a Passphrase
Advanced users can enable an optional passphrase (extra word) for added protection. It creates a “hidden wallet” on your device.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Device not recognized? Reconnect, restart browser, or reinstall Trezor Bridge.
- Stuck at firmware update? Let the device complete the process uninterrupted.
- Seed phrase lost? If the wallet is already set up, restore access with the phrase only.
